중에서 언급한 '복자 마누엘 로자노 가리도' 이야기

Lolo (nickname), Spanish journalist, a patron of journalists

August 9, 1920_born in Linares, Jaen, Spain as the fifth of seven brothers & a sister (Lucia).

1926 (6)__His father died.

1929 (9)__first Communion; 1930 (10)_Confirmation; 1931 (11)__“Catholic Action Movement”.

1935 (15)__His mother passed away. 

1936 (16)__became a Eucharistic minister during the Spanish Civil War.

1937 (17)__arrested because of his secret Eucharistic activity.

1938 (18)__imprisoned for 3 months; 1940 (20)_bagan the career as a journalist.

1942 (22)__became a soldier, attended Mass every morning, 

              and began to suffer from spondylitis (chronic rheumatism of the joints).

1943 (23)__completely paralyzed and confined in a wheelchair.

1956 (36)__founded “Sinai” magazine, a prayer community for the media.

1958 (38)__travelled with his sister to Lourdes.

1962 (42)__lost his sight but kept working 

1969 (49)__won the prestigious “Bravo” award for journalism; Nov. 3, 1971 (51)_died.

let your hands touch the freshness and vitality of things, 

so that when others read what you write, they too can touch first-hand the vibrant miracle of life. 

…Pay with the currency with frankness, work the bread of information 

clean with the salt of style and the yeast of eternity,

rather the good bite of a clean and hopeful life as well as inviting people to cut the hand

 that wants to smear, because the stains in the brains

“Despite the illness that constrained him to spend 28 years in a wheelchair,                

he didn’t stop loving his occupation. In his ‘journalist’s Decalogue,’ he recommends

‘paying with the coin of frankness, working the bread of clean information with the salt of style and the yeast of eternity, 

and serving neither pastries nor spicy dishes, but rather a good morsel of the clean and hopeful life.”

 복자 마누엘 로사노 가리도

‘롤로’라고 불린 마누엘 로사노 가리도가 태어난 지도 어느덧 100년이 되었습니다. 그는 언론인의 후원자였습니다.

그는 작가요 저널리즘 전문가로서 삶의 대부분을 휠체어에 앉아 심각한 질병을 겪으며 보냈습니다. 지난 10년간은 시력을 잃어 볼 수도 없었습니다.

그의 삶은 쉽지 않았습니다. 그는 1920년 8월 9일 스페인 하엔도 리나레스에서 태어났습니다. 아버지가 돌아가시자 어머니 홀로 남아 일곱 형제와 여동생을 키웠습니다. 그가 15살 때 어머니마저 돌아가셨습니다.

그는 신앙과 성체에서 힘을 얻었습니다. 젊었을 때부터 가톨릭 액션에 참여했고 늘 활기찼으며 추진력이 있었습니다.

그런데 그는 22살에 전신이 마비되는 척추염에 걸렸습니다. 온몸이 마비되는 체험은 저널리즘에 대한 호기심과 글 쓰는 일에 대한 사랑을 끄지 못했습니다. 끊임없는 고통에도 그는 결코 불평하지 않았습니다. 그의 집 문은 누구에게나 늘 열려 있었습니다.

오른손으로 글을 쓰지 못하게 되자 그는 왼손으로 글을 썼습니다. 그가 펜을 자꾸 떨어트리자 손목에 펜을 묶어 사용하기도 했습니다. 그는 타자기를 사용할 줄 알았고 손가락이 움직이는 한 타자기로 글을 썼습니다.

미사를 드릴 때는 제단 위에 앉았습니다. 그는 ‘언론인 십계명’을 썼는데, 프란치스코 교황은 이를 미디어 모임에서 다음과 같이 기억했습니다.

“자신에게 끊임없는 고통을 준 휠체어에서 28년을 보내야만 했던 질병 속에서도 그는 멈추지 않고 자기 소명을 사랑했습니다. 그가 쓴 ‘언론인 십계명’에서 그는 이렇게 권고합니다. ‘솔직한 동전으로 지불하고, 스타일의 소금과 영원의 누룩으로 깨끗한 정보의 빵을 만들어 봉사하고, 패스트리나 매운 음식을 제공하지 않으며, 오히려 깨끗하고 희망찬 삶의 좋은 음식을 맛보게 하라.’”

참으로 그는 우리가 따라야 할 좋은 귀감입니다. 그는 저널리즘이 고상하고 깨끗하며 희망을 주어야 한다고 생각했습니다. 그는 날마다 기쁘게 살았고 1971년 11월 3일 고통을 끝내고 선종했습니다.

그는 9권의 책을 남겼고, 에세이와 기사 등 여러 주제에 대한 글을 썼습니다. 그는 또한 시나이 공동체를 설립하여 미디어를 위해 기도했습니다.

그의 복자품 청원이 1994년에 시작되었고, 그는 마침내 2010년 6월 12일 복자품에 올랐습니다. 그는 복자가 된 첫 번째 기자입니다.
